Move your school

Your kids spend most of their days in school. Saskatchewan in motion believes schools, communities and families share responsibility for making sure kids can move every day. Make sure your school is doing its part. Use tools to make sure your kids get 30 minutes of physical activity every day at school.

  1. Find out if your school is in motion. An in motion school is committed to providing at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day for every student.

    • Call the principal or physical educator to see if your school provides a minimum of 150 minutes of physical education class instruction and activity per week per student.
    • Familiarize yourself with the physical education program at your school.
    • Find out if your school “Makes the Grade” for quality daily physical education.

Find out more about Quality Daily Physical Education.

  2. Read Saskatchewan Education's Guidelines for Physical Activity in Schools.

  3. Sign up for extracurricular activities. If your school offers physical activities (sports, games) after school or during lunch, discuss the possibilities with your kids and sign them up for some fun!

  4. Find out about quality school intramural recreation.

  5. Start a "walking school lunch club". Start a club that lets kids walk with friends during their lunch hour under adult supervision. Volunteer to make this happen or offer the suggestion to the principal or the physical education teacher.

  6. Give teachers the idea. Ask your kids' teachers if they can incorporate physical activity breaks within their day or hold special active events once a week. Stretch breaks and active team activities are a good way to get the kids moving.

  7. Ask some questions. You’ll be a more effective advocate for your child if you understand the situation at your school.
